Joya Marie Marsh was born and raised in Michigan. From a young age she showed artistic talent, drawing on and creating books from the excess neurology scan paper her grandmother brought home from work. Around age ten she discovered photography, playing with disposable cameras and Polaroids. In high school the William D. Ford Vocational Technical Center offered her the opportunity to explore new areas of visual creativity through animation and video. The artist expanded her creative studies in college and fell in love with printmaking and bookmaking while attaining her BFA. She continues to explore ways in which to draw on these experiences, using various techniques to express her ideas.

Joya currently lives and works in Seattle, WA. Drawing inspiration from the city and its wild surroundings. Her focus has been on observing the cycle of urban living and the fine balance that exists between what is natural and what is man made.
